6600GT is going for around $200 US - that's what I'd be getting if I hadn't just dropped $400 on a monitor. Have to wait till the wife forgets about that before I bring up a new vid card.

6600GT's are 349 at the cheapest. And those are crappy XFX cards. A decent brand 6600GT will run you 360-375 depending on if it's on sale or not. I would get a used 6800nu from the fs/ft fourms.

LoBob,
Check out all the user reviews on those cards. Lots of folks talk about what they upgraded from and what kind of results they got. I was running a ti4200 till I bought a 9600pro about a year ago and that was a huge boost. The 6600GT is supposed to be better than a 9800pro in most areas so I'd think you'd get a smile on your face.

The 6600GT is about 30% faster than a 9800Pro, which itself is 50-100% faster than a Ti4600. So yes, it would be a significant step up in performance.

I don't know what benchmark you used to score "10,000" (3DMark01, maybe?) with a Ti4600, but you'd be looking at a 100-150% performance increase across the board, although you might start to be CPU-limited at lower graphical settings (for instance, in 3DMark01 at 1024x768 without AA/AF). Plus you get DX9 effects in games that support them (such as HL2 and FarCry). Doom3 will also probably look a bit better.

Look at my post. Rarely have I seen 6600GTs for over $300 (At leas not like that, Mostly something like $302, $306). Which, translated into US dollars, is something around $240 US.

Loook at the link I psted:

www.canadacomputers.com

In the Vid cards section, the 6600GTs are pretty cheap.

Oh crap, sorry, I just noticed your talking about Canadian dollars. In that case I'd go with a 6600GT.
