There's a saying that we are all familiar with, about spitting in one hand, and wishing in another... But, I thought that this would make a good thread. Have any of you ever watched Sci-Fi movies about the future and saw how they depicted the computers...like Hal, then turned to your own computer and sighed...I have.
I'm continually Googling for something that I dreamed up, only to find pages upon pages of unrelated links, and though I imagine that what I want is somewhere within those millions of returns, I can't find it.
So, I thought that it would be good to have a thread in which we could dig up our deepest desires, and post by describing programs that should and could be designed within the current technology. In other words, don't go off into fairyland.
For example, one thing that I just futilely searched for, was a program that would perform the function of an autochanger, only better for the PC. This program would search where ever you told it to and list all audio formats and play them on your chosen player. If you have GBs of audio stored on your harddrive, you might be able to keep it playing all year around, nonstop. Something like Muzac, but this could also be extended to videos, so that you could get rid of the TV antenna and unplug the cable or satellite.
A smaller wish that I had, was to find an AGC that would work when playing movies, so that I didn't have to constantly change the volume to keep from disturbing the neighbors...since I'm sort of a nightowl. Actually, I did find one program that looked like it might do this, but I couldn't ever make it work.
But this thread is not just for my ideas, but for anyone that wants to contribute. And it's not without purpose, because I'm hoping that some programming geniuses will read this, and find inspiration for their next project. So let the ideas roll.
