Wishful thinking...

I wish it were possible to change the rules (or the courtesy) in the For Sale/Trade forums to require in the title at least one of either:

FS
FT
WTB
WTTF
OT (for troll threads and the like)

I dunno how unrealistic this is but the concept seems to be lost on some members at times...and espcially on newbies who think your buying something but your actually selling/trading something.

-----

The only other thing the ability to delete your own thread from that forum only would be great. I just got a pm for an item that i put up (but never sold) and just let what i thought "die" 6 months ago asking "is this still availible?" (mind you made no mention of item or what he/she was refering to...that was the extent of their pm). I would have rather just deleted the thread than risk being messaged by who knows 6 months down the line...

I know wishful thinking...

Never in a million years should we be able to delete our own threads. Better to edit the thread and show items as SOLD.
I agree about titles. But I have my own policy. If the title isn't descriptive, I don't even open the thread. Titles like "Look Here". "Great Deals", "Prices Lowered", etc get ignored by me. I don't even open the thread.

yeah scratch the delete thing...i was just annoyed by people messaign me 6 months removed thinking i still wanna hear about it. I forgot about the best purpose of having old threads...judging prices and showing noobs their uber desktop is not necessarily worth the retail price anymore :D

I try to ignore but those are usually threads with a buncha crap in them where I'm looking to see if they'll sell/trade for anything only to find they are only sellling or only trading.

The other reason for not deleting threads is to make it harder for trolls to troll. If they could troll someone, then delete the thread, there would be less ammunition against them.

It is wishfull thinking to have mandatory titles. I would like it too. As oldsmoboat said(typed), if it isn't descriptive from the title, I generally don't look.

If we are making a wish list for the FS/T forum... how about it we can get ppl to do a search for stuff before posting a WTB thread? It always amuses me to see ... WTB, when there is one for sale three threads below!

But I think you are right... descriptive titles are needed!

On the WTB note. I agree with searching, but how do you let others know you have searched and the one's you found are too pricy, not exactly what you want, etc?

It is rough, I know to find exaclty what one is looking for... I am not meaning that ppl should not post WTB. I jus think that most people post WTB without even doing a search at all.

The trick is to not give users a choice. Simply have a set of radio buttons (much like the polls that can be set) that the user selects if they are buying, selling, trading, or OT. The thread title could then be prefaced with system text like WTB: and the user's entered title.
