Wish there were S939 Semprons to buy

I would love to start with a cheaper Sempron 64 in a 939 board, and upgrade later. AMD made them - but where are they?

Does anyone know?

Yeah, I was kinda waiting for them too... XBitLabs says having bought one in Moscow some two and a half months ago... Unfortunately these don't really seem to appear in the shops...

I believe they're OEM only at the moment...must be pretty scarce even for OEM's cause you don't even see them in the usual places like Newegg, ZZF, Monarch, etc.

Now that Biostar makes a socket 754 that has a pci express slot, the Sempron 2800+ is a nice and cheap gaming rig. I upgraded both of my kids from P4's to Sempron 2800+ at 2.2GHz+, and they are significantly faster for gaming.

Very inexpensive and pci express to boot.

Do you like the Biostar board?
How much have you OC'ed it?

It's the Biostar Geforce 6100-M7, $65 shipped at newegg.

I have both of the Sempron 2800+ running on a 280MHz fsb for 2240MHz with the core voltage at +10%. They would easily boot at 300MHz fsb, but not quite 100% stable, not sure if it was the cpu or motherboard holding it back. Using the stock AMD cooler on both of these, full load temps are below 50c.

Generic PC3200 is running cas 2.5 at 1t command @ 210MHz (DDR 420MHz).

The 6100-M7 had onboard Geforce 6100 video, but I threw a couple of cheap Radeon X700 in there. These boards are a fantastic bang for the buck if you need a cheap solution with a cpu based memory controller for gaming, you can always upgrade to a socket 754 clawhammer (1MB L2 cache).

I was looking at that Biostar 6100-M7 board somewhat. Yours is mATX - right? It got 4 stars at Newegg, which is not bad.

I assume from your comments..Mr. Rogue - that the bios does have some overclock abililities. Can you elaborate on the bios a bit?

Did you have any issues at all with the board? I have a SATA drive and sometimes these can be problematical with some boards. The MSI Socket A I am using now was super easy in this area.

The TForce6100 looks to be an even better choice ..http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138268. It is a few dollars more, but has the SATA leads, and gets some really good plugs for it's overclocking abilities.

Looks like I am going with a 754 board.

PS. I just looked and Newegg has a combo special with that board - a Sempron 2800+ - reduced and free shipping on the CPU. That looks pretty good.

You're right ... they are out there. However a "phantom launch" is an excellent way to describe them.

In the meantime, I believe with some patience we'll begin to see them in abundance. AMD is not looking to extend the 754 platform, which will automatically force a budget 939 line once AM2 gets up and running.

I could be wrong .... but I'd be mighty surprised if I am.

I got a message back from MSI on one of thier boards that could use S939 Semprons. They said that the factory had elected to use OEM builders for this part. I then did a Google and found some in Canada. Problem was they were as high as an Athlon 64 - not a bargain at all like the Sempron 2800+ that fits a 754 baord.

Side note:
Man, it just hit me. Do we realize how much money we have made for Google by coining the term ..."Do a Google"? They should share some of the loot with the masses of pc guys and gals out here!

It has SATA, but I am using IDE drives.

Cpu voltage +5% - +10% - +15%
vdimm up to 2.92v
full memory timing adjustments
1MHz increments fsb adjustment up to 300MHz.
agp voltage adjustment
memory dividers of course
