Well, I finally decided to re-enter the work force. I'm filling out all the forms, getting references, etc etc. I already have the nice wardrobe plus shoes to match. :D I am especially interested in an EMH (educably mentally handicapped) teaching position open at my neighborhood high school and if it hasn't been filled yet, I'd like to snag it. A couple of the girls in the class are girls I worked with when they were in elementary school, and I'd love to work with them again. :) If it isn't open, I'll wait for something else to open up at one of my neighborhood schools, which will probably be soon. I want to be able to juggle Momming with Teaching without losing my mind, so it is important to me to work within 5-6 miles from home.

So, wish me luck... my days of being a stay-at-home, free-lancing mom are nearing an end, and it might be sooner than anyone expects! LOL, my husband has already started complaining and I haven't even been hired yet, but he knows that I will be, and it probably won't take long. :p

Update:

In the process of getting my letters of recommendation, the principal I used to work for asked me if I would be willing to take an aide position until a teaching position opened up. It's with the Early Learning Program so my son would enroll as a 'typical peer' and be in the classroom with me all day. From there, the first teaching position to open up would pretty much be mine.

:D :D :D :D

You've already got plenty of experience. You're an ATOT frequenter!

Hope you get the gig.

:) :) :)

Thanks, yamahaXS. I've been waiting to do this for a while, and I finally feel ready. I hate to do anything unless I think I can do it right!

I can't believe I'm excited about going back to work, lol...

Cool, good luck. My mom did the same thing a few months ago, working as an aide at a local middle school right now.

Good for her! I did that a few years ago, and I loved it. It is such rewarding work! This time around, I'm finally qualified to teach.... I still need my certification but apparently I can get it after hire. It's kind of a scary thought but the teachers I worked with did a good job of showing me the ropes.

<---excited :D

Thanks Ralli. :) It might take a few months for me to find a position that fits my requirements (I won't take a job that is more than 5-6 miles away from home) but once I do, it will be good to feel like a professional. :)

You have been mentioning doing this for over a year now.....finally!

I congratulate you on your decision and good luck!

Below are some quotes from Albert Einstein.

"Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character."

"One should guard against preaching to young people success in the customary form as the main aim in life. The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in its result, and the knowledge of the value of the result to the community."

Yup... I needed to take care of some things regarding my family first, but now that I feel confident that I've done everything I can, I know this is the right thing for me. :) My husband is freaking out a little bit over my decision, but he is just going to have to deal with it. Change is scary, but for me, stagnation is scarier! BTW, I love the Einstein quotes, especially the last one. I am doing this for the love of it, and because I know that in many ways it will help fulfill a need I have to be of good use in the world.

And thank you, Heather, Geekbabe :D, Yield, and simms, and fluxquantum for your support and encouragement. I might not actually begin work until next year (we are talking about what is essentially a government job, lol!), but the process is definitely moving forward! Tomorrow I go to the school I used to work for and pick up a couple of letters of recommendation.

:) :) :)

EMH (educably mentally handicapped) teaching position

Are there teaching positions available to work with mentally handicapped people who have been dubbed "non-educable"?

Nope... in those cases (non-educable), you have nurses, not teachers. What I'll do is teach the basics... numbers, colors, how to tie your shoes, how to follow basic directions, how to make a purchase... those kinds of things, depending on the age group/abilities. Some kids can learn to use computers... some kids you are lucky just to get to sit still for five minutes. But they are all amazing, wonderful people to work with... even when they are driving you crazy. Anyway, the public school system is required to offer this service and it just so happens to be something I'm pretty good at. :)

And thank you, Stark. The amazing thing is how much good it seems to do me.

Blessings Susan. It sounds like the perfect job for you, someplace where you can really utilize your caring personality. And I think you'll really enjoy that type of work, and the time out of the house. :)

I too enjoy the quotes. Now I have to find a way to move down there to be your student ;)
Ps. I hope that you get more use out of your camera on the wonderful students.
