As most of you know, my son is a type one diabetic.

Every year we go in for a meeting with my son's school. We go over what each of us has to do to make sure that my son stays healthy and has a good education. Well the largest teacher's orginzation in the country recently voted to disallow non-medical personell from treating kids with diabetes. This might not affect us, or it might make my life hell. Its just about time to find out.

More clarity on the teacher's decision.

UPDATE:
well I just got back. Everything went great. The school is more helpful than ever.

Isn't there a nurse on staff? Good luck.

no...there is one nurse for the entire district. She shows up about once every three weeks. This is the way most schools are around here. We can't afford nurses for every school.

What good is a nurse that shows up once every three weeks?

the funny thing is I know of no cases where someone has sued a school over this. We are all very confused over the decision of the AFT.

I do online support work for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and we have been getting flooded with emails from people battling with schools. The good news is that we do have the law on our side.
