Lucky me! I've had high blood pressure (untreated) for a bit now, and they are checking for arrhythmias. Yay happy weekend for me!

And by high blood pressure I mean when I went to the doctor on new years eve because you could see my hearbeat in my throat quite pronounced, was afriad it was aortic regurgigation (ugh) and my BP was 166/90.

Been monitoring it since then, tonights was 129/86, so some improvement by simply cutting caffiene in about half of what i was consuming and alcohol by about 1/4. It hovered around 140/100 for a year or so, so I quit smoking in September thinking it would help, but it didn't :(

good luck man!

166\90 is fucking insane.

It is likely that substantial lifestyle changes are in order, it's unfortunate that they always seem impossible at the outset.

Eat plenty of fruits and veggies, and have plenty of water. It should help keep your blood pressure down.

that is not that high...ignore Dr. JOJO McPuff and his astute diagnosis... it is slightly high...or it could be even slightly above norm for you...

now, take some sudafed and puff on some Newports

You're high. Show me something, or any member medical professional that would say that 166 is not abnormal. In fact 24 hour monitoring was prescribed to make sure the guy doesn't have additional problems and to get a baseline.

It's possible that this is a relatively normal bp for him but is it definately abnormal.

I would say that 166 could be normal. 120/80 is a base figure. Alot of people's blood presure doesn't run near that at all. That being said, 24 hour monitoring is not a bad idea. Sure couldn't hurt anything. You would be surprised of the people who show up who are having PVC's and don't know it.

By the way, all of us that work in the ER, agree that you are probably high!

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine...but does this mean that the next time you're in Detroit, no  for you? :(

166/90 isn't that bad...YES, it's too high, but consider that until just a couple of years ago, DMV didn't consider anything under 150/90 to be high blood pressure. I've had my Class A CDL for 30+ years and have had to have a full physical every 2 years, and as I got older, I had to fight to keep it under those numbers. Now, anything under 140/90 is considered to be ok, but over those numbers brings some restrictions.
After I got hurt, I quit commuting, quit smoking, started eating healthy...and my BP started climbing...and climbing...When I couldn't get it under 200/100 by changing my diet and with exercise, (I did water aerobics 2x weekly) I agreed to start taking pills...Now, it runs ~130/80. The doctor is happy with that and so am I. That's the lowest it's been in over 20 years.
Personally, I think putting you on a heart monitor is crazy unless the doctor sees some other reason besides the high blod pressure...

hah no, just no bourbon and cokes ;)

and the heart monitor is to rule out any underlying issues that may be causing the high BP, they're just making sure it's "run of the mill" high BP and not some physical issue w/ my heart

better safe than sorry!

How old are you? Was that 166/90 resting (after sitting for 5 minutes?)? What is it in the morning when you first wake up? What is your pulse? How much do you weigh?
