Yesterday, I got one upper wisdom tooth extracted and two front baby teeth extracted. One day later, the pain level is at 2 (very mild). However, when I bit on gauze this morning, it was pretty soaked in blood on the wisdom site (not so much on the baby teeth site). Should I be concerned? I can't taste any blood and when I gargled, there is no sign of blood.

Also, how long do I have to wait to (1) drink/eat hot stuff (2) use a straw (3) exercise.

My dentist did not give me any restrictions other than no heavy exercise for 48 - 72 hour but I've read that using a straw and consuming how beverages/meals may lead to dry socket.

just be thankful you are at a 2, i was at a 7-8 for 3 days

bleeding will happen for a couple of weeks, nothing to worry about. if you start feeling dizzy you know you bled too much.

were yours impacted? did you do all of them at the same time? the people who do all at the same time seem to have a much tougher time. Did you get dry socket? 7-8 sounds really high for 3 days.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, they said don't use a straw for a week.

I was eating "normal" food after just a few days - but very carefully. As long as you don't get any food in the socket, you should be just fine.

what about hot drinks/food?

Also, my dentist didn't say shit about a straw so I had a cup of coffee with a straw about 6 hours after the extraction and now I'm freaking out...

I had 4 + 1 wisdom teeth removed in the same session, total anesthesy.
The fifth one was a random teeth that came out on the side of the gun, below the other teeth. Really weird.
I don't remember feeling any pain, I don't remember how long I waited to return to normal food. Laughing felt constrained at first.

I would probably avoid hot drinks because you're sure to get that in the socket, but I never drink anything hot anyway. Just stick to still water?
food probably doesn't end up in the socket that easily if you're careful, I'd still avoid very hot stuff.

I did two of my bottom ones this past fall. Don't use straws for a week or two. Leads to dry sockets. Bleeding stopped for me after the first day but all I did was lay in bed, pop vicodin and ate ice cream and froyo. I was able to go to the movies that same night but I had to pop a vicodin every 2-3 hours. The next day I dropped it down to 1 vicodin for the entire day.

I avoided all sharp foods for a day or two but afterwards I just made sure I used my front teeth to chew. I drank alcohol that same week and started working out again a few days later.

All in all, by the first week everything was fine except for the holes in my gums. It was annoying having food get stuck in the holes. After eating, I would have to rinse my mouth with water, softly at that, to get the food to come out of the holes. Holes were there for almost a month.

thanks for the advice all...sounds like I'm getting off pretty easy. My pain never exceeded a 4 on a scale of 1-10 and a couple of advils took care of that. I too was feeling good enough to go the movies last night.

I'm letting my coffee cool to close to room temp...I think that should be good enough.

i am not sure if they were impacted, but a few were rotated somewhere between 40 and 70 degrees o_O they hurt like crazy before they were removed

but as for the pain post removal, whatever they gave me for painkiller didnt have any effect whatsoever. i think it was extra strength tylenol or something like that, but it did nothing. think they had to give me some vicodin or something else like that, and that worked.

and nope thankfully never got a dry socket, those things sound like murder!

Got all 4 of our daughters yanked a few weeks back - paid the extra for a oral surgeon, had her put under for the procedure as well. None had broken the skin yet so they were able to stitch the flap of skin back over the top to keep the wounds minimal.

She was in a solid 8 for pain for the day of, moved doen about 2 points each day - and was basically back to normal on Day 4/5. She was on Percocet 5mg taking 1-2 every 6hrs or so, an Aleve mixed in and antibiotics.

She had slight bleeding for the next 2 days but very minor.

No straw (sucking action) for 5-days at a minimum, nothing hot for at least 3-4 days as well.

Got all 4 taken out at once. I was eating solid food by the evening with operation in the morning. I don't remember anything about eating hot foods, but no straws and clean the flaps of skin using the syringe they give you -- depends on how they stitched it though.

They should have given you Tyllenol-3 for a reason...

If you're still bleeding excessively one day later, I'd be slightly concerned. I had some yellowish plasma (?) and light colored blood when gauzing the morning after, if I recall correctly. I'm not a doctor, so if you are concerned, phone him or find one.
