How long should the bleeding last?

It's been almost three hours since I've gotten home. I'm biting down on the gauze pretty hard so that it will stop. My jaw is even coming sore because I'm biting down on it.

Why do they call them "wisdom" teeth, it's not like they give you more wisdom ..

I have no wisdom....never have, never will. :Q Yeah yeah, you knew that. Right? :p Seriously though, I've had quite a few x-rays and they show no wisdom teeth. I guess my mouth/body didn't make any for me. I'm not complaining mind you. Oh, and I'm 25 so I doubt they will all of a sudden appear on an x-ray in the future. lol

hzl_eyed_grl - you're pretty lucky :)

I had to have my wisdom teeth pulled before they were even coming through the gums before I got my braces on. Yeah, that hurt! I remember coming home and sleeping for a couple hours. When I woke up my whole face and pillow was covered in dried blood :disgust:

Eeewwwwy. You poor thing. I've heard that it really hurts to have them pulled. I've had other teeth pulled, but it's prolly nothing compared to that.

hzl_eyed_grl: I don't have any either and i'm happy as punch. I'm not sure what would scare me more - the pain or the expense of getting em removed.

It's probably the result of some myth ;)

Actually, those 'wisdom' teeth are yet another 'left-over' part of the Human body, like the coccyx and the appendix, after years of evolution.

Since we evolved from Mammels with 'bigger' jaws, those 'wisdom' teeth don't fit on our (smaller) jaws anymore :)

Several hours to a day or so. Call the surgeon if you're unsure.

The neat thing: really great painkillers. Hold on to these, whatever they are; they're great.

And, the pain goes away pretty quickly. Had my lower ones out a few years back. Woke up while the oral surgeon was still breaking them up. Didn't care since he used sodium pentathol -- he could have sawn my arm off and I wouldn't have cared. :)

yeah, it'll dwindle down to dull ache after 3-4 days. and you might have a dull dull ache for a week maybe.
but i believe they give you stuff called percoset, pronounced pergoset. good stuff, really really really really goooood stuff. ;) :Q :D :D :D :D :D :D

About 3 day's before i had my teeth out, my pops shattered the ball of his shoulder joint, and he got a bottle of the stuff as well.

I got FOUR of them. Worship me unwise less-then-32-teeth rubes!

The lower two are still under the gum line; major pain is coming my way sooner or later.

My dentist described the horrific procedure, but I only remember that I'd be given some morphine before the procedure and high dose of ibuprofen afterwards. I don't mind being drugged for a couple of days, he he he.

Took me about 24 hours. If you have any concerns, you can always call and see. Plus make sure you take the meds to keep the swelling down. Swelling exerts pressure and causes more pain.
