I have a appointment to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed. The bottom teeth are impacted the top ones are half way out moving outward. I'm not sure if the top ones are important to take out. I defiantly want the bottom ones out because I have a permanent retainer I want to take out and my teeth would shift if I didn't take the bottoms ones out beforehand. After insurance it's going to come out to like $780. Kind of expensive! He's supposedly one of them best ortho surgeons around here. What?s everyone?s experiences with this procedure? Should I even get the top ones out I was thinking of leaving them to save money and pain?

mine was nothing, went in, got out and was coherent right after, almost no pain. My brother though was out of it for like a week cause they were hard to get to. I recommend you go to a good oral surgeon rather than a regular dentist, itsworth the money.

If you are going to get them out, do all four at one time.

I paid about $750 total to have mine done. I didn't have insurance and was in college, so that was a ton of money for me, so I went the cheapest route. I had an ex-military dentist who used novacaine (I was not knocked out). Pretty bad experience but I'm glad I got it done in one shot and for cheap.

I believe mine were about $750-$800. Not sure exactly but my insurance paid for most of it.

It wasnt too bad. The worst part is the week afterwards. I remember waking up from it with my gf in my face. I don't remember anything, but she best explained me as a drugged up, drunk college student misunderstanding everything said to me.

My gf explained me having this convo. with the nurse while coming out of it:

Nurse-Want some ice tea to drink?
Me- Long Island Ice Tea?
N-No. Just regular. I'll go get you some.
M- [Me yelling out to her.] I like lots of vodka in mine!

Don't remember that at all. At other points I ended up hitting on both nurses, looking at a picture of my gf and thinking there were two of her, and complaining that I wasn't getting drunk off of my ice tea. Those drugs really made messed me up.

In the end, later that day, my gf told me everything. I remember leaving, but nothing prior to the operation to that point. Two weeks later when I went back for a follow-up, the nurses told me that I was certainly the most amusing patient they've ever had.

Advice: Baby food. Was addicted to the stuff for the three weeks after it. I know it sounds weird, but my mouth hurt so bad to eat anything else. (Or anything else soft such as that.)

Good luck.

All I can say is: get put to sleep. I was awake for the entire procedure (numb, but awake) and it was intensely painful.

I didn't feel anything while beeing awake, even when splinters of teeth came flying out my mouth.

probably less than a grand for all 4.. though i cant remember for sure

i do remember that the first time--when the first 2 were removed--it was completely painless. no gas used. just standard anesthetic shots.

the 2nd time around i had minor discomfort for a day. didnt have use any of my painkillers (saved them for fun days /w alcohol later)

overall it was no different than a normal tooth removal.. dont know why people make a big fuss out of it?

around here, there are medical testing companies that perform wisdom teeth removal and pay you 200$/tooth to test new medicines.. most of the time they give you placebo. had i known, i wouldve done it... 800$ in the bank for a day's work
