Walker's allies rush to aid Wisconsin GOP governor

Gov. Scott Walker is in another tight political spot, and his allies are again rushing to the Republican's rescue, powering his re-election bid and trying to keep alive his presidential prospects.

On the ballot for a third time in four years, Walker is in a tough race against Democrat Mary Burke, the former Trek Bicycles executive who has proved more formidable than his previous rivals.

A poll released Wednesday shows the race is a dead heat.

Koch Industries, controlled by the billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch, has given almost $1.8 million to the governors' group so far and is its leading donor.

Americans for Prosperity, has hosted Walker at events and is expected to be one of his most bullish backers if Walker ran for president.

Total GOP-leaning spending on advertising is now at close to $7 million, outpacing the Democrats' $5.4 million on the air.

I tossed a coin up in the air and it came up Mary Burke by a smidgen.

I hope the folks that are backing Walker spend billions of $$$ on his campaign in their attempt to buy votes that normally wouldn't go their way and eventually get nada out of it.

Go Walker.

Mary Burke is nothing more then a public union puppet. Want higher taxes? Want unions running the state? Vote for her.

A lot of people here seem to like Walker, even some people I know that typically lean to the left. On the other hand, one of my close friends is a probation officer, she hasn't had a raise in years because of him.

It has to be a little disconcerting for the GOP that his less well funded competitor is basically even in the polls with him during what should be a favorable midterm run up with big donors shoveling cash into the PR incinerator as quickly as possible.

When you take away the "free" candy, or make people pay (something) for it now, they tend to get angry...

Walker the Governor who has ran his state into a Billion+ dollar debt in a recovery? Gave out too many tax breaks to the rich, $10,000 credit for private school users, Couple hundred Million in State money to former doners, etc. Do I mention pick and choose union busting, Firefighter and LEO unions did not get axed. Plus turning away Millions in Federal money that could have helped fund healthcare and other services for the poor.

That's an easy one.

http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin...ott-walker-increasing-state-deficit-cutting-/

We Are Wisconsin stated that, with his proposal to cut income and property taxes, Walker is "increasing the state deficit at a time when borrowing is already at record levels."

The statement contains an element of truth in that state borrowing is at an all-time high -- but, flush with a nearly $1 billion surplus, it’s clear the state does not have a budget deficit.

Moreover, an increase in the "structural deficit" -- a projection of a possible imbalance of expenditures and revenues in the future -- has no direct relation to how much the state borrows.

We rate the statement Mostly False.

Why should it be favorable for the GOP? Wisconsin is a pretty liberal state, and Republicans who actually do conservative things have not historically been very successful since McCarthy. Remember, Wisconsin hasn't cast its electoral votes for a Republican since Reagan '84 - when every state but Minnesota did.

Yep.

I used to think that Wisconsin was even more liberal than Minnesota is. Not sure what the fuck is going on over there but Scott Walker needs to go. I am so fucking glad we finally got rid of Tim Pawlenty.

Maybe Wisconsin finally woke up. And we decided that we no longer want to be run by public sector unions.

That it doesn't make sense that private sector employees pay for their health, pay for their retirement, and can get fired, but the people that work for them don't.

Hi, I live very close to the Wisconsin border in Illinois. The Democrats enjoy a supermajority in both the state government, and the local government of the nation's 3rd largest city.

Illinois is $321 billion in debt.

You're all proud to make political jabs about one measly billion?

(some places report Illinois @ $321, others @ ~$160b, don't know. But the per-capita debt is anywhere from 50% to 300% higher than Wisconsin depending on which figure)

You are bringing up political parties when from what I have heard Chicago politics are among some of the most corrupt in the country Democrat or Republican.

Wisconsin has lower taxes, fewer dollars come in per person than Illinois.

Wisconsin also has higher spending, more dollars spent per person than Illinois.

The bigger point is, Wisconsin often gets portrayed as a Republican dystopia.

But when you look at the numbers the state is operating pretty damn well. Comparatively.

Well Tim Pawlenty trashed this state so fucking bad so regardless of parties politicians can ruin shit anywhere. Fuck Erne Carlson was Republican and as far as I remember he was not that bad. But he was a moderate republican in the 90s compared to the neoconservatives in the 2000s to even worse now. We had a huge surplus and some of the most prosperous schools in the country and after Tim Pawlenty took office we got a deficit and our schools dropped in quality remarkably.
