That's just plain offensive. It's no better than the westboro morons. Protest all you want, but that's not the right place for it. Those folks did nothing to deserve their ceremony getting interrupted.

Maybe they thought Obama would be there to bowl with them.

Sometimes you wonder who's doing the Union PR ? Nothing to be particularly outraged about, but it's a stupid move by the Unions and protesters that only costs them support.

Is this even a Union sanctioned protest? I haven't read anywhere that it was.

If it was a Union sanctioned protest then shame on the Union.

More details for anyone who wants them:

The same group staged a 'die in' at the state house before moving over to the Special Olympics event.

They may have been students and not union members though. Most likely a combination of the two.
http://www.wisconsinreporter.com/zombie-protesters-lurch-for-voter-student-rights
The zombies ended their lurch with another pass around the square, near where Walker stood addressing a group of Special Olympians who were about to begin a ceremonial torch run.

Protesters didn’t speak to Walker, but walked to the front of the crowd to turn their backs on him, blocking the view of some of the athletes gathered to hear him speak, MacIver News Service reported.

Participants said they tried to defer to the athletes by making it a silent protest.

“We didn’t shout at him out of respect to the Special Olympics,” said Kristan, who added he was motivated to participate in the protest mostly due to the voter ID measure.

The bill "is going to take away a lot of students’ rights to vote,” he said.
BTW the voter id measure requires people who wants to vote so show an id.

How many college students don't have a valid state ID? Don't most colleges require a valid ID before you can take any classes?

Did you watch the video?

Were there Union protesters there? Or do you think the old man holding the sign was a student?

So, because an older man was there, you're assuming he's a union worker and not just a random supporter?

I don't see any evidence in the video of them being indentified as union workers. fail post.

let me guess, let let you have a laptop in your padded cell.

wow that was the best comeback ever!!!

Edit: the Zombie die-in was an 'official' student-organized protest. Little if any union involvement. Some of the student zombie protestors decided to lurch out of the building and down to the Special Olympics event that was right outside. I was sitting in a restaurant watching it happen. It was the definition of a facepalm moment.

Regardless of your thoughts on Wisconsin politics, dressing up and acting like zombies and disrupt a freaking Special Olympics event is beyond classless, and while it's perfectly legal, the students responsible should be locked up in the stocks. Damn, we really ought to bring back public shaming.

Lighten up. I bet those kids probably got a bigger kick out of those Zombie Dtudents than they did listening to the Stiff of a Governor you guys have giving some Bull Shit Speech.

Or they just confused a bunch of mentally disabled people running around in circles for Republicans.
It's a common mistake. :whiste:;)
:D

I could equally say that perhaps they saw the Special Olympics competitors, concluded that the protest had already started, and just joined in.

However both of these, though admittedly funny, are disrespectful to some of the few Americans who really are trying as hard as they can. Special Olympics needs to be sacrosanct WRT politics, as these people don't get a lot of special days.

Then why did you make this statement before:

Shame on those who did it. There's a time and a place and doing it when it's for the Special Olympians is not the time or place.

Just trolling? You were against the protest before you were for it? You can't even keep your trolling consistent within the same thread. I wonder if we simply filtered the word 'Wingnut' and 'Faux' from your posts if it would cut down the DB side of AT by like 10%... :awe:

When you take it out of context it might. I was responding to the member who stated that those who protested should be locked up in stocks. For what, exercising their right to peacefully assemble in protest? That doesn't mean that I approve of what they did or to be more precise, doing it at that event.

So, the issue of respecting the Special Olympics has been raised, the right defending the program against this disrespectful choice of locations for a political protest.

OK, let's ask if they are actually defending the program - or are really its far worse enemy, only using it for the chance to attack political opponents but they're worse.

Let's point out the real attack on the Special Olympics, far far worse than this protest - the Republican Party voting to slash its budget.

http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/03/budget-cuts-special-olympics

Special Olympics president and CEO Tim Shriver has said the program is at the forefront of a national movement to fight bias against the disabled and, in a recent interview on MSNBC, he denounced the GOP cuts: "It wasn't a haircut—it was a guillotine job for the programs for health and education for children with special needs."

So, which is it Republicans? Are you defending the Special Olympics, and you will criticize your party's attack on its budget - or are you its hypocritical enemy?
