Anyone voting in an R district, maybe even just acting as a volunteer, please show up and fake coughing and splattering and don't wear a mask.
A fever and shaking would be a nice touch.

Tx
Safe enough to vote, safe enough to visit some Republicans.

We will see something similar in November, particularly if COVID is making a second wave. Republicans will only support efforts to make voting safe if those efforts also help them win.

A number of republicans have openly admitted that they will not win elections if it was easier for eligible voters to cast ballots. The conservative cult has firmly entrenched it's belief the the sole legitimate democratic process is one that propels them into and keeps them in power.

I'm already seeing pictures from friends where the lines are wrapped around the block. Spacing is good between everyone and inside the voting location itself.
Luckily it's a somewhat warm day here today (chance of rain though).

I've seen (and have had to correct) about 5 posts on social media from people thinking their absentee ballots had to be RECEIVED by today, and not just post-marked so they planned on going to the polls to cast their vote instead of mailing in. This is exactly the problem - confusion. Tons of it. No matter the results of this election, it's a complete mess and clearly not the CLEAR voice of the people. Everything about today is messed up in WI.

Yes, I guess it's not that surprising but they have gotten themselves to a place where making it easier for people to vote is viewed with active hostility. Even more amazing about it is the open acknowledgment that they would lose elections where everyone voted.

The other alternative is too painful to think about. Actually advocating for policies that could win support from a majority of voters.

That's what happens when your party's platform is white, suburban and rural identity politics. Branching out to appeal to more of the electorate means embracing the 'others' that you define yourselves against.

This is why I always found accusations of identity politics from conservatives so funny. I think because they view suburban white people as the 'default' they don't realize that their party is defined by identity politics.

I had thought this was just primaries, but a news story I saw last night said there were some actual elections involved, including a contested election for the WI Supreme Court. Due to Koch money that court has been getting stacked with compliant GOP judges for years-as shown on their ruling ordering this election NOW under pre-emergency rules.

It would be interesting if this heavy handed tactic results in a huge voter backlash to start to take back that court.

Also Mayor of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County Executive (like county president). This is not just a primary.

Wisconsinites could have voted absentee in the tuesday election had they filed to do so early enough. There are a lot of states with unlimited absentee voting, it's just that most people don't use it. There are ways to game an absentee ballot in a lot of others where the voter merely need affirm they'll be out of their town or county on election day. I mean, who's going to bust you? "My plans changed after I mailed in the ballot."

Here's a list of how it works, state by state. Some are ridiculous-

https://www.vote.org/absentee-voting-rules/

Some have Dem govts & can make positive changes unless inhibited by state constitutions. Dems need to push the hell out of it where it applies.

My wife filed for her absentee ballot over 2 weeks ago. Hasn't received it. We know a few others that have the same situation.

Young people, get out and vote out that idiot judge who is endangering people's lives for his own election. There is a small risk to you, but it is lower than letting Republican corruption continue unchecked. Once they know they can intimidate you, you will be just cattle to them.

It is simply unfathomable to me that a city the size of Milwaukee would have only 5 polling stations. While I vote from the comfort of my own home in a similarly-sized city in a blue state with universal vote-by-mail. If anyone needs proof of GOP voter suppression, this alone should be sufficient.

And it's not just the city itself. As I previously stated, the surrounding suburbs have been condensed too - and the spaces they have been condensed to, are not larger than the ones they closed. It's just gross here right now. I really wish I could leave this state. It's just gone to hell. Hopefully after today, it takes a small step back to healing itself, but I'm not overly confident. The good thing is that from the pictures/video I have seen, A LOT of the people standing in line are of young people which theoretically means more progressive voters.

Which underscores the need to file for an absentee ballot in the general election asap. It seems likely that the system was simply overwhelmed by unexpected demand, which is why Dems fought for funding to states to meet said demand.

And they're not going to report the results until next Monday 4/13? This is just naked corruption on the part of the WI GOP.

Well, the absentee ballots can still roll in on the 13th (any received after that day are voided). They just have to be postmarked by today.

The reality is 6ft distancing is a probabilistic number for short duration contact.
We are seeing hours long lines, which means people are exposed to extensive viral loads, following into others wakes, which means people will get infected, infect others, and some of those people will die.
This is on SCOTUS, Wisconsin Supreme Court and Legislature Republicans. They have blood on their hands, and have to be reminded that at every opportunity. From now on, they are mass murderers for all intents and purposes. Don't let them ever claim they are pro-life.

As I've said to countless articles and comments posted everywhere on a wide variety of topics over the past 3 years: "They don't care"

It's a shame the law is being observed to uphold the voting day(s). If the vote were delayed, we could be crying right now about how voter suppression is real because the vote was delayed, all the republicans fault for choosing to delay it! o_O
