Wisconsin best in the nation on the ACT test....

...intriguing.

good job preparing your kids just for a test and nothing else ; P j/k j/k.

edit: omfg the average is 23.9 or 24 something, wth...that's so...low.

that equates to a high 1000 low 1100 sat's...

I know my kids aren't going to Wisconsin schools. What about their SAT scores? Why would they do best in one test but not in the other? Does that say something about the tests being extremely biased? Or do not most students in Wisconsin take SATs too?

Most students in the midwest don't take the SAT. I don't know of anyone in my HS that did (graduted with 270). We did all take the ACT though.

I don't know where your from, but most kids only take one or the other. No one in California takes the ACT, just the SAT. I don't know how we rank in SAT scores, but of course we don't rank for the ACT. The opposite is true for Wisconsin.

I took the ACT and got a 32 twice. Which is a very good score overall. I took the SAT once, I think I could have done better, and got a 1480. I really have no idea how good that is because none of the schools I applied too needed the SAT.

i went to a private school in ohio...everybody took sat's and act's.

act's is a midwest thing, even easier than sat's : ).

I was just joking about training kids for a particular test...it does happen quite a lot though at all levels of schooling : \. I tutored underprivelaged kids for a few yrs (4th graders) in rather low income settings, and the only way the school survived was through grants...well grants were only given if the students did well on the 4th grade prof. test...guess what happens, even if teachers don't want it.

1480 puts you in the "very good" category, not exceptional which is 1500-1520 and above.

Sounds like my scores correlate then. Wooohooo.

To deviate a little, do you remember how much people in HS used to stress over SAT/ACT? It was like the world was gonna end if you got a low score, or god forbid didn't make it into your first choice college.

actually.. that 1480 is a better score than the 32 ACT (comparison chart)). the schools my daughter applied to would accept either SAT or ACT, so she submitted her ACT score even though SAT is more common on east coast, because her score (also 32) was slightly better than her SAT (1390) (she must be a clone of wfbberzerker). different kids will do better on one test or the other depending partly on their test-taking style and partly on their strength in math and science (ACT tests a higher level of math than SAT and includes a science section).. here (this district.. I don't think they do it state-wide) they encourage everybody to take both, for that reason, and encourage it by giving PSAT and PLAN (the pre-ACT) both to all 10th graders, so they have a guess as to which test will be more successful for them.

regardless of what the schools you're applying to take, if you're in the running for national merit, you have to take SAT, they dont' accept ACT scores to prove the PSAT. and.. if paying for college is more important to you than going to a top 10 school, then the PSAT is more important than SAT or ACT either one.. you get national merit and you have full ride, somewhere. Florida and Oklahoma, for sure. and.. Alabama.. didn't I see someone say Alabama is ACT only? yet university of alabama offered my daughter full ride based solely on her national merit status..

They are ACT only. The SAT is accepted and I took the PSAT just like everyone else, but the only one used by schools is ACT. Every school system in the state uses the ACT.

Actually, I'm from California. I did take both.

Where's the proof? PIC?

Its the average of all ACT takers in the entire state, not the average of those who scored in the 90th percentile. And its the highest state average in the nation - consistently.

The point is that it seems Wisconsin is doing something right as far as its public education. Must be the cows or something.
