As the title states, my wireless network isnt working anymore after my step dad installed some wireless security cameras. I tried changing it from the default channel 6 to 11 and that seemed to work for a minute or two, but now i cant get it to work on any channel. Is there something else i need to do? Im assuming the cameras work on default channel 6??

EDIT: for lameness

cameras off i can connect, cameras on i cannot. cameras work perfectly fine and my laptop sees the wireless network but when i try to connect it says it cant connect.

i tried moving the router to a different room, and when im in that room i can connect to the internet, but not from my room or any other room in the house.

router is a lynksys wrt54g with speedbooster.

Just a few guesses.

Are the wireless cameras still working?
Turn the cameras off and see if you can connect.
Power everything down. Pc, router, cameras, ets.
Power them back up,, wireless router first, then pc, then cameras.

When I have isntalled something new most times I had to power everything down and then back up.

Your question is like asking my car is not going what shell I do.

Without providing technical detail about the Wirleess the Network, IP scheme, and what works, and what not, there is No way even to guess intellegently.

Sounds like your wireless signal is just plain oversubscribed. Perhaps try picking up a wireless router/access point which has multiple antennae.

kinda sounds that way.

op, how many cameras, and do you have a link to them? have you tried turning on one camera at a time to see if things work with just *some* cameras?

3 of them, and they transmit to a reciever that plugs into the dvr downstairs and records while no one is at home. it doesnt works when any of the cameras of the reciever downstairs is on.

So it's not actually using your wifi, it's on it's own wireless? What is the frequency? You may need to manually set the channel if it's 2.4ghz to channel 1 and then set your wifi to channel 6 or 11

yes it broadcasts its own wireless but I can't figure out how to change the channel it broadcasts on.

I've seen this before. Since the cameras are using the whole 2.4 spectrum they will entirely kill your ability to use 2.4 wifi. I've seen it before, those things completely obliterate the entire spectrum rendering 2.4 Ghz WiFi basically useless.

JackMDS - they use the ENTIRE SPECTRUM! Not just a channel - ALL CHANNELS and they load it to 100%. The one way to bring any wifi network down is to use these things. The only way is to get rid of the Cameras or use 5 Ghz for wireless.

I would say he's exactly right on this. Basically don't use 2.4ghz cameras that utilize it's own wireless system, get one that connects with 802.11g wifi

I've been called in to do a full spectral analysis many times on enterprise wireless on why a full 100mX100m area isn't working with wifi. It's always because of 2.4Ghz video systems, they completely rape the spectrum.

Maybe talking to your parents would help. I'm getting off topic here, but those cameras are to alert me to protect my family. If you interefere with them you are risking your family's life/property and yours. Switch to 5 Ghz.
