I just got a new wireless/mouse keyboard from microsoft, the model here:

Newegg Link

It's acting quite flaky though. Occassionally, when I first start up, it will work perfectly. After a few minutes of use, though, the mouse begins to lag and then jump around the screen to catch up with where it should be. Eventually it stops working altogether. The keyboard, too, only registers keypresses about 80% of the time.

Any ideas what could be going wrong?

Thanks,
gm

Sounds like you got a bad unit. Possible RMA time? I've only had experiences with 2 wireless kb+mouse combos - a LiteOn unit and a Logitech Cordless Elite Duo (Elite KB wireless w/ MX700 wireless). The LiteOn unit was flaky - you can't press mouse buttons and keyboard buttons at the same time or there is lag or no response. The Logitech worked beautifully, until it broke from abuse (read: dropping down a dozen feet on concrete).

Are you using rechargeable batteries?

I was having all sorts of lags and the keyboard wasn't working while I was using rechargeable batteries. I just switched back to single use and everything is working fine.

But it might be my keyboard and mouse, Compaq wireless keyboard and mouse.
