Wiring question: PS3 related

I'd like to try wiring an HDMI connection from my living room to my bedroom in order to utilize video playback from my PS3 to my bedroom TV. My plan was to run wire like this:

PS3 is in living room. Run HDMI from PS3 to a splitter. Splitter to living room TV and to wall jack. HDMI cable from wall jack through attic to wall jack in bedroom. HDMI cable from wall jack in bedroom to TV in bedroom.

Any potential issues with this? I figured I'd be able to utilize the PS3 in the living room to play games, etc when I was in the living room. When not in use in the living room I could get video playback in the bedroom pulling from my media server.

Will I experience issues? The attic achieves 120+F in the spring/summer.

Sounds like it should work, 120F isn't all that hot as long as you have relatively decent cables, if you are sticking with HDMI the whole way the only potential issue I see would be signal drop off if the run is too long, I'd make sure that the splitter you are using is of decent quality. With all of that said, wouldn't it be a lot easier just to get another PS3?

Can't justify buying another PS3 just for the small amount of time it will be utilized for streaming in the bedroom. Also, figured that running the wire and connections will cost less than $50-75.

A splitter or a switch? Do you need to display the PS3 in both locations? Or just a switch to tune it to the bedroom TV when necessary.

With the quality of cables you would need plus the price of the spillter I would think it would run closer to $150-$200, but if you can get it that cheap then it sounds like it would be a good option. Be careful on the wires you use, HDMI has signal falloff, like off a cliff falloff, with standard cables at around 5M. You can get cables that can transmit up to 100' if you are willing to pay for it but they get rather pricey.

My understanding that is unless you have some crazy good cables, there begins to be issues with 1080P over HDMI as the length gets really long (like over 30 feet or so). I guess it depends on what the total cable length will end up being for your setup.

You might consider buying one of those stand-alone media players like the Western Digital units, or a cheap Blu-Ray player with USB media capability. Was there anything that only the PS3 can do that you needed this for?

1080p over that distance is a gamble. It was never designed for those distances. To do it right you should convert it to a balanced connection using a HDMI --> CAT5 converter on both ends. Then you can send it the distance. Just using a standard HDMI cable will cause reflections in the cable that can introduce artifacts.
