Wiring my house for Ethernet - Any advice?

I just closed on my new build home and I (stupidly) did not get the house wired while the walls were still down. Now it is up to me wire it so I am looking for some advice to make things easier. Any general advice? There anything that I should buy to make dropping the lines/locating the lines in the walls more easily?

I haven't solidified anything yet, so I don't have too many details to provide, but if you want more information, just let me know.
 
Is the basement finished? I ran all my wire in the basement and came up through the bottom plate in each room.

The basement is finished, though there is an unfinished storage room where I was thinking of putting everything (patch panel, router, modem, etc...).
