I have two head phones with relatively short cords and instead of buying a longer one, decided to splice the cords together to lengthen them.

When i cut the cords, both sets (same brand) has blue, gold, and red wires...

So i figured, connect the same colors to each other and that should do it...but i get no sound through them.
any ideas?

lol.........

Headphone wires are coated in enamel. That is the coloring.

You will need to scrape the enamel off. You can tell it has been scrapped off when you see copper colored wire. Even then, the only way you will get a reliable connection is to solder. They can be a real PITA, because each individual strand of wire is coated.

You would've been better off just getting an extension cord.
