Wiring case wires to motherboard?

Hey all, I just wanted to ask how straight-forward/easy it is to install case wires onto a motherboard. By case wires I mean HDD light, power/reset button, speakers, USB, etc.

It may seem like a stupid question but I once had a friend come to me with an ancient PC with a motherboard AND case that had no color codes/indicators of where to plug in everything and it took me 10 hours of frustrating trial and error to get it working. I've been scared to put together my own PC in years solely because of this.

Assuming I buy new parts with the manual, it should be pretty straight forward correct?

yes.

there should be a diagram in the motherboard manual for the "front panel" pin array that shows exactly how to connect the power switch, reset switch, power LED, HDD LED, motherboard speaker, etc.
