Am I the only one that hates the design for the SATA connectors on hard drives ?
I really miss the old molex style power connectors.
When you connected one, you were sure it was connected and that it wasn't coming loose.
And while I hated the ribbon connectors for ide, surely they could have come up with a more secure mount for the cables.

I'm using locking sata cables, but they still feel flimsy.

Other thing that annoys me is the power, hd light, reset connections on motherboards.
Can we get a standard here ?
Where everyone has the same pinout, same pins, and we can use one connector to plug in the board, similar to the motherboard usb connectors. Rather than having to break out the motherboard manual and a flashlight to see what pin is where.

Not pc, but HDMI cables are another gripe. Just feel flimsy when connected.

I think the standards board needs to re-hire some of the old engineers, seems like a lot of the new connectors aren't up to the old standards.

Ok, done venting now :)

When SSD's become mainstream they may be able to get power from the serial interface. MAYBE!

Of course a backplane is the correct way to alleviate these issues. ;)

The hot swap cage in the Silverstone Kublai cases is sort of a quasi backplane. The connector brackets are available separately for all you experimenters/DIYers...

I use the 3x5 Supermicro ones for SAS/SATA and they work perfectly at 3.0Gbps speed. I also have a 4x1 (four SAS 2.5" drives in a single 5.25" bay!) but no 2.5" SAS spindles to put in it. :( Once they have 128GB SS 2.5" SAS drives it will be great and quiet!
