Just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them?? My friend recently attempted this and it posted as a 2100+ then crapped out a few seconds later and is now dead, apparently.
 
depends on what type of wire you use. if the wire was thick the chip maybe seated improperly and would mess up when the heatsink is crooked. But i have tried the wire mod, or pin mod and it should work with any chip that is unlocked.

Sounds like the mod did work, but something caused the HSF to not be as secured as it should have been, and it burned out. I think beyoku is right, the wire was probably too thick.
