I have a problem with a Linksys WPC11 802.11B wireless PC card and a DLink DI-524 802.11G Router

I have an old laptop with this Linksys card in it and am trying to get it on my wirelesss network so I can use this lappy in the garage. I have them setup correctly (presumably) they are connected and the WEP stuff is set up right, but my problem is I can?t get to the internet, I have gone through the internet connection setup and checked everything I know to, I use Firefox but have even tried IE. Once I plug a Cat 5 cable in no problems connecting, just no wireless, any ideas?

Like I mentioned in the first post they ARE connected. Both the Linksys WAN utilities and the Windows network connections say it is connected to the router with a good signal.

If you can not transfer files it means that you do not have a FUNCTIONAL Wireless connection.

The fact that you have a Signal (strong or otherwise) does not mean that you have a functional Wireless Connetion.

Read the content of the two links above and go over the settings.

check if ur getting an IP address from the rotuer

start run , command, ipconfig, should be like 192.168.0.xxx

if not than turn of all ur firewalls.

if not , disable wep and try connect to it again..

this often happens if there is a WEP key mismatch. As long as you have the correct SSID the client will usually "connect" and register a signal... however it will not get a valid IP address. Once you have the WEP key correct then you'll receive an IP address. I would strat by verifying your WEP settings.

Eps.

If your using XP's wireless utiltiy click the icon in your taskbar. If your sending but not receviing packets then you have an encrpytion problem.

OK I got it, apparently the Linksys wireless utility and the Windows utility were not compatible, so I uninstalled the Linksys stuff (except for the driver) and just used the Windows wireless utility and now it works fine.
