Copied over from the Networking board since no one seems to be responding there:

Hi,

I've got a strange problem. I just bought a wireless card for my laptop. Its a Dlink Airplus (DWL-650+). I installed it correctly and when I first used it, it worked great. But the next time I tried it, it would not work. The Dlink utility says I am getting an awesome signal, although Window's Wireless Connection Status says the signal strength is "Very Low" to "Low" (it varies). I cannot ping any web site. I cannot even ping the router.

In the "Activity" box in the Wireless Connection Status window, it says several thousand bytes have been sent, but 0 received.

The active clients section in my router's control panel does not list the laptop's connection so I guess it is not connecting to the router. I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G router. The connection from my other computer works fine, its just from the laptop that it does not work.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers on the laptop, but to no avail. Its really puzzeling especially since it worked perfectly when I first installed it. Any ideas?

Ok man, the FIRST thing I'd do it get rid of that crappy ass DLink Utility (just have the wireless card installed with the drivers, nothing else). Next thing, make sure SP2 is installed as it provides better support for wireless. Now just use Windows Wireless Zero Configuration to manage your network connection. If you are still having problems, remove the wireless security and see if you can connect to the AP. If you can connect and get an IP, reapply your security settings. Also, make sure you are broadcasting your SSID as WZC will not be able to connect to the AP.

Note: You are aware that you'll only get 11Mbps with that card since you are connecting to a WRT54G, right?
