Wireless USB receiver not installing

I am trying to get a D-Link AirPlus G122 USB receiver working on an old Pentium III computer. I follow the instructions perfectly:

First installing the driver package.
Rebooting
Then plugging in the USB receiver
And installing the drivers for the USB through the "found new hardware wizard".

But that is where I come to a problem. The "Found new Hardware wizard" does not find any drivers for the USB device. I have tried everything possible, even re-installing Windows XP on the computer, and still, nothing.

Tech support can't help me. I talked to some clueless rep that I could barely understand. He had no idea why windows XP wouldn't find the drivers. I thought maybe the community here would be able to help me.
Thanks

Your old P3 may only support usb 1.1, and that may be a problem. Any requirements listed for the adapter that says it needs usb 2.0?

In its early life, usb was sometimes poorly implimented on some mbs. This can be corrected by using an ad-in usb controler card.

Thanks for your reply. Windows does give me the "this device can perform faster with usb 2.0" popup, but I disregarded it. This usb receiver was working on an even older Pentium II with windows 98 a few days ago! Why will it not work on a newer computer?
