Hi,

My house has uses a wireless/wire LAN. My roommate wants to hook up his Dell desktop using a wireless connection but is afraid of opening his case.

How does the Wireless USB Adapters compare in performance next to the Wireless PCI Adapter cards?

I have never used one to be honest with you. However, I do know one person who does and he says it works great.

You might want to check out Practically Networked to read reviews on this product.

I can't believe your friend is afraid of opening his case! You should cure him of that right away. :)

I hear the PCI cards with the wireless adapters are much more stable and faster though....but that is just what I have heard. I use Wireless PC Cards with the laptops. The desktops in my house are all connected via CAT5e.

I am using both (PCI, and USB).

I find the USB Wireless better then the PCI Card.

In the PCI card, the Antenna is usually stationary on the card, stuck behind the computer. As a result, the signal is partially masked by the metal parts of the computer, the desk etc.

USB is connected through 3? wire giving you ample of flexibility to position the unit for max. Reception / Transmission.
