You need to find out which chipset it uses. I've used a Linksys that uses the PrismII chipset just fine in Linux, it's actually more reliable in Linux than Windows.
Do you get good range and performance from this card?
When I compared the Prism2 based D-Link DWL-650 vs. the Orinoco, the Orinoco had
three times the throughput. The distance to the AP is rather short, but there is obstruction and a USB client would be more ideal than the PCMCIA client sitting inside a PCI card. Unfortunately, not too many USB clients work with Linux AFAIK.
I do not use any external antenna on the client.
The 3Com card is probably another Prism2 based card, as that is the most popular OEM chipset by far.
