Wireless Trouble, still :(

As per this thread from a few months back, i am still having wireless issues...

Using either my wireless macmini or my Ibm T41 laptop upstairs (with the router downstairs), the signal is sketchy at best.

Many times while browsing the web, it takes 2-3 attempts before pages actually load. I get quite a few Page Not Found.

I never actually lose connection to the router, it just stops responding for 20-30 seconds.

I have tried netstumbler, shows an SNR of 47... Roughly 5 other AP's are detected, showing SNR's between 15-25. One of which is halfway down the street (the idiot used his address as the SSID)

I have tried moving the router as much around as possible, but it just will not throw a better signal upstairs...

Are they any routers out there i could possibly replace this with that might be able to penetrate better?

Entry Level Routers by default Transmit about 35-40 mW of a 2.4GHz signal.

The nice thing about the Hardware is that it is a real equal opportunity device.😉

I.e. if your environment kills 40mW, it would kill it whether it is carried by SMC, Linksys, D-Link etc.

There are few means to extend coverage, and they cost money and it is Hard to predict which one would do the best for minimal Cost since it is highly environment specific.

Therefore, you have to study the option and try (Which is what scientists usually do).

An Additional solution is to get the Linksys WRT54g flash it with 3rd party firm and try to use higher transmitting power.

It is my least preferred option, but some people ?live? (or ?die?) by it.
