So I can home this weekend to fix the connection problem my parents are having with the wireless. Supposively both computers just stopped working one day. So I started doing some research on why this would happen and the only thing that came up is that sp2 tends to jack up. Since i had to reformat one of the pc's I went ahead and did that without using sp2.... still doesnt work. It connects when I directly connect the pc and laptop to the modem (using roadrunner by the way) but as soon as I connect a router (ive tried both dell truemobile and a linksys) the wireless nor the lan does not work. I am able to get all ip and gateway when doing the ipconfig /all when connected directly from the modem. But when any router is hooked up I cannot get a ip or gateway. Ive tried releaseing the ip and renewing it but it tells me it cant because something about media is not connected. Ive spent all day and I dont know what else to do. Thanks in advance for anybody who can help me out.

Sounds like your router went bad. Please use paragraphs so we can read it easier;)

Without more information such as whether or not the computers are actually able to 'see' a signal from the router (wired or wireless) - i.e. can you get to the router's setup page if you connect a PC to the router while the router is not attached to the modem, and whether they get any errors, etc., I would have to suspect one of the following:

1) The patch cable being used between the modem and the router(s) is bad.
2) Both routers are bad (not likely, but possible).
3) You do not have the correct PPPoE information in the router setup. I don't think Roadrunner requires this, but it's a common problem with DSL.
4) Roadrunner updated the firmware on the modem - or made some other change - so now it is using an internal IP address of 192.168.1.1 instead of 192.168.0.1 or whatever it was before, and that is conflicting with the internal address on the router (both of those routers default to 192.168.1.1), preventing proper communication between the devices. I have seen several situations where this type of conflict "confuses" the router to the point where it will not talk to anything, and could explain what you are seeing. Connect to the router without the modem attached and see what happens.
5) Roadrunner changed their network configuration to limit the number of IP hops they allow downstream from their routers, so that when your router is added into the mix there are too many hops and the ISP rejects the connection. Only a few ISPs do this, but it does happen.

I have seen 1 and 4 happen frequently so I would lean towards either of those before the other options, although all of them are definitely possible.

try to reset your router to default configuration, this can be done by pressing the reset button for a few minutes until the light flashes. If you cannot get any IP from the router, maybe the DHCP server features is disabled on the router.
Good luck

Thanks for all the help guys... sorry for the non paragraphed thread. I found out what the problem was.... the MAC was not configured the same for both router and isp. Soon as I matched them up and did a power cycle on modem, router, and pc all went well. Thanks again for all the help guys.
