2 years ago we got a D-Link DL514 router (802.11 B) and the DWL reciever is in my wifes computer down stairs. We get very slow and poor reception at times. We've played with the location and antenna angle etc. and it still isn't all that fast and closes down too often. The equiment seams to be OK just slow and too far apart. I could go to G routers but that cost too much. I have Cat5 cable and crimpers from work so I could just hardwire the whole thing for little cost and just some labor. Run the cable down to the basement and over to the computer. About 50 to 60ft total.
It looks like I can just patch cable the downstairs computer into the back of the 514.
Has anyone ever done this? Are there any roadblocks I haven't considered?
