Wireless stability help

Hello, I'm running a wireless network (mainly to share an internet connection) using a D-link DI-714p+ and a D-link DWL-520+, both are 802.11b and both are running in "4x" mode. I've been having some trouble with the stability of the network - the PC that is connecting wirelessly loses the connection at time. The distance couldn't be more then 25-30 feet, and it's not going through concrete (but it is going through tile). I don't necessarily think it's a signal problem because the software states that I constantly have 100% link quality and the signal strength never drops below 75%. I also don't have any other wireless deviced runining on the same frequency (although switching the channel from 6 ro 5 did temporarily solve the problem at one point). Finally, at one point I enabled the 128-bit encryption, which worked fine untill a day later when the router and the adapter stopped communicating - at that point I disabled encryption again which got it all working for a while.

Finally, could anyone tell me the difference between the "long" and "short" preamble settings? Currently, both are set to "long", and I'm wondering if that has an effect on stability.

Once again, any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Is your DWL-520+ stuck behind your case between the case and the wall?

If so try to move the computer away from the wall and see if it helps. If it does get yourself external Antenna or a USB Client.

If the above is not the case:

Try to switch both Wireless Router and Client Card to regular 802.11b the B+ mode is not always stable.

Yeah, it's under my desk but about two or three feet away from the wall, I'll try to move it out more. I'm also currently looking into a USB connection. IF that doesn't work out I'll switch back to 802.11b like you suggested.

Thanks.

Oh, by the way, can anyone tell me if DMZing my PC through my router opens up EVERYTHING? I always thought I did, but now I'm running into some problems with the client Filetopia.

Yeah DMZ supposes to open every thing.

Try to put the computer directly to the Modem and see if the problem gone.
