wireless speeds have a long way to come

i'm transfering some large files between two fast computers with fast drives, connected using "54 Mbps" wireless. speeds seem to be hovering around 800 KB/s. That's less than 10 mbps of actual speed. And this is using Linksys, Netgear, and Motorola equipment, so it's not like the equipment sucks.

wireless sucks for real networking. 🙁

I am using 64-bit WEP, but operating without WEP isn't really much of an option in the real world. Gimme a true 100 Mbps with WEP enabled and I'll be a happy camper.

Network utilization in Task Manager never tops 20%. Using 80% of 54 Mbps for overhead is crap.

I've never used WEP. :Q

There are plenty of crappy chipsets out there, and Linksys, motorolla, and other big name players use them.
