I am relatively well versed in wired networking, but I am a total n00b at wireless.
Here is my network layout at home:
DSL Line --> DSL modem --> 10/100 NIC in Linux box (router) --> gigabit NIC 2 in Linux box --> 8 port gigabit switch --> other PCs + another 8 port gigabit switch
What I'd like to do is plug a device into one of the ports of the second switch and be able to use wireless. Am I correct in assuming that:
1) The correct terminology for this device is a 'bridge'
2) That what seems to be cheap are only 'routers' and these cannot easily function as bridges <or whatever the appropriate name of the device I want is called>?
Plus any more info you feel is valuable in terms of features I should be looking for other than the obvious choice between 802.11 b, g, a, (and n?)
Thanks.
