Wireless Signal to Desktop

olds

My daughter has a desktop. Her roommate added a wireless router to their place. What do I need to get the signal on her desktop?
Years ago I used a wireless PCI NIC on one of my machines but it had poor range.
IS that still the way to go now days?
TIA

PCI are the best solution for a Desktops provided that an External Antenna that can be extended to sit above the system is used (as oppose to be stuck low between the case and the wall).

Otherwise, use a USB with a USB extension cord and place it above the system.

ooops.

EDIT: I thought this was OT for a minute. But yeah, PCI is the way to go, and if there is a signal/obstruction problem, get an external antenna.

Definitely a pci type with desktop style antenna, the usb ones always suck in terms of performance. Or if you want to get really crazy make a wireless bridge out of an older WAP/Wireless Router using DDWRT, also very good signal
