wireless signal strength problems

I have a D-link DI-514 setup for my home network. Until recently, I've never even used the wireless part of the router, just the dsl routing. Since I bought a new laptop, I am trying to get wireless throughout my house, but I've found that the range of the di-514 is really awful.
I can't get a decent signal even 25ft away although it is around a few corners. I can't really move the router because I connect the dsl modem to it and I'd have to rewire to move that.

My question: Would it be a good idea to try to find a better antenna for my current router or purchase a new router altogether (One with better range)? Or is there some other alternative I can try?
I'm open to suggestions please!

Are there any other wireless networks nearby? Netstumbler is a useful utility that will scan for wireless networks and let you know what channel they are using. If you have wireless networks near you on the same channel then you could try changing channels.

Does this program do packet sniffing??? Like sniffing WEP signals?? I installed this and found 12 wireless networks.. its a highrise condo building of 148units. . ...

this could explain why 3times a day my singal just drops for like 5mins and i have to reboot the router. . all 12routers in my building are using Channel 6......

You want Airopeek if you are looking to sniff wireless networks.

Also, just change your channel, then let everyone else reboot their routers.
