do they make some kind of device that i can plug into my laptop or some other kind of device that i can use to pick up wireless signals farther away?

i am having trouble picking up signal in certain parts of my house/yard..

looking for something that picks up signals farther away.

saw it in popular mechanics, but make on out of cardboard and aluminium foil in the shape of a triangle that goes around antennae.. heres an idea... |<

i got one for my desktop, there was no improvement keeping it at the same place the original antena was at. I think the only reason it works better is because it has a longer cord so i can move it closer to the access point, but thats just my experience. I think tiger direct has alot of them, they are around 40 dollars, but i dont know if they will work with laptops. Just because i had to screw mine in, maybe there are laptop specific ones?

wait...now i have a question...sorry for hijacking, but am i supposed to hook this up to my pci card, or my router?
