Wireless Signal Booster? Cheap?

I currently have an iPAQ Wireless Connection Point CP-2W. I was wondering if there's anyway to keep this connection point without having to spend a bajillion dollars to add some range to it. The signal is very weak when I go at a 45 degree angle downstairs. I'll mount something on my roof as needed, but remember to suggest the "lesser expensive" equipment. (I'm a teenager and it's hard to afford much at the moment. 🙂 )

If anyone could also tell me what is the best WLAN card (but again, inexpensive) I get that uses the 802.11b protocol would also be helpful. (2.4Ghz)

For laptops, get the Orinoco Gold or Silver, or Dell Truemoblie (it's a rebadged Orinoco).

For your access point, look at getting a higher-gain antenna...but these can cost some $$. Other option is to hook up a wireless-bridge. Run a Cat-5 cable from your router to the lower level of your house and hook it up to the bridge.....essentially it becomes another access point.

I've also seen some articles floating around that talk about using your house's wiring for the antenna of a wireless LAN.....

My $.02

Tx so much for the post!

What bridge or hub or router do you recommend? Or which should I use??? Sry, right now I'm in IT Essentials and this is the networking chapter and it's been crazy. I can't tell the difference b/w a hub and a router (no I take that back, but maybe a hub and a switch). Could you also recommend a brand or something? Tx.
