Here is the gear in question:

- 3Com 3CRWE554G72TU OfficeConnect® Wireless 11g Cable/DSL Router --> LINKY
- MSI PC54G2 Wireless IEEE802.11g PCI Card Adapter --> LINKY

The router has the most recent software upgrade (v2.01.10) and the wireless card was installed using the most recent drivers (v4.3.0.0). Operating system is Windows XP SP2 with most recent updates. The MSI card appears to be installed properly as it shows up in Device Manager without any issues.

All wired connections to the router are functioning properly. The wireless capability of the router has been enabled. Encryption is NOT turned on. The PC also has a 3Com Etherlink III 3C590 ethernet card installed that is functiong properly (I have also tried disabling the card to see if that helps).

I absolutely cannot see the wireless network at all. The card and router are set to the same channel and the SSID has been manually typed into the settings of the PC.

HELP!!

can your card "scan" to see what report what SSID's it sees? Try a program like Netstumbler to see if you see anything. Take the laptop to a know working WLAN location (don't have to even connect, just "see" it) or try a known working client on that AP.

Every time I scan it comes up with nothing. It is entirely possible that the wireless card is bad, or the router for that matter, but both are brand spankin' new.

I have never heard of NetStumbler, but I will certainly give it a try. Although I am afraid if it scans absolutely nothing already, then I'm not gonna find anything new.

Borrowing someone's laptop is a great idea though...thanks.

Place the Computer close to the Router with the Antenna unobstructed.

If you use Windows to mange the Client Wireless make sure that Windows Zero Configuration (WZC) Service is On ( http://www.ezlan.net/wzc.html )

However you might be better Off starting with WZC Off using the Original Brand?s Wireless Utility, or and Netstumbler ( http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads )

Log here there is many pages concerning wireless may be you would ?Stumble" upon some thing that you forgot, http://www.ezlan.net/#Wireless

Otherwise you might need to borrow a Wireless Laptop, or a second PCI card to make sure which piece of hardware is not working.

My buddy brought his laptop over and it does have wireless capability. As soon as it got into Windows, BAM!, it finds my router and connects to the network without any problem. I'm starting to think it is the MSI PC54G2 card.
