Wireless security

I just got a netgear MR814NA and I have heard it has issues w/ using MAC addresses to limit access. Aside from that, what is my 2nd best option to make sure people dont piggyback onto my router?

use static ip's for the clients and if your router will let you assign a static ip to a mac address. mac address filtering works with a netgear wireless router i have so i'm not sure of any issues there
