So some @#$)@I%! is stealing my packages from our apartment lobby. I want to set something up to catch them so I can post their face all over town, but I obviously can't get anything delivered because it would be stolen. Plus, my birthday is Friday and I've already had one present ripped open, so I want to get something set up tonight. I have a microcenter, a target and a best buy near me.

I need something that is battery operated, lasts some time (at least the 10 hours I'm at work) so motion detection is probably necessary to save battery. I was thinking about getting a Vado HD which does have motion detection, but I wasn't clear how well taht works or how long it would last.

Ideas?

First, I'd be careful posting someone's pictures from stealth surveillance.

You will also need permission for setting up in the lobby.

I'd post this up on one of the security forums, most end up building battery packs...

So far as I can tell, Illinois specifically allows silent video recording - It's the audio that is the problem.

Don't just post photos, report the bum. It's theft, and they should be charged and prosecuted.
