I found some on the interweb but most of them are rather old. I just want to make sure my home LAN is safe and learn a bit more on wireless security.

Any links?

This can help for the Wireless per-se, Wireless Security for the Home User.

In addition, secure your LAN with software Firewall on each computer. Allow LAN communication between your computers only. By doing so, if someone did manage to "leech" onto your Wireless he would be able to ?steal? Internet bandwidth but would not be able to access your Hard Drive.

If you have real Sensitive Data, use it only on a Wired Computer and segregate your wired computer from the Wireless.

Here is my setup:

I have 3 computers at home. Two of them are connected on a 100mbits switch. I recently installed an HTPC (3rd PC) in the living room and I simply want to be able to access shared files on one of the wired computers. I bought a simple wireless router and a usb dongle.

I do not use the router to access the Internet (I can already establish two connections to my ADSL provider at the same time with the switch (so I get two differents external IP adresses and don't have to mess with the whole portforwarding stuffs). Basically I just want to use the router as a bridge between the HTPC (wireless) to a main computer (wired). I'd like to make sure that my LAN is safe and that I can access the media share only (Internet not needed) via wireless.

Buying two USB dongle might have been easier but the router + dongle was really cheap.

Any pointers, tips?

Too much to read in my previous Post?

I am not going to discuss the nature of your unorthodox setting, just taking it as is

You already Hardware! OK Just use the Max. security that it can provide.

1. Unique SSID
2. MAC Filtering
3. No extra IPs available from DHCP.
4. WPA2 the best. No WPA2, use WPA, No WPA, use WEP.

You feel that this is Not enough?

Use NetBEUI for File sharing and unbind TCP/IP from it.

Install AirSnare. to detect intruders (a little complicate commotion, but hey it adds security;) ).

Actually I read all of it. It helped, thanks. I posted my setup just in case someone has a better idea (than mine) for my needs.
