Wireless Routers

Hey, with my laptop comming today i'm going to need a wireless access point soon for home use.

I'd like to get one with a built in switch, becasue i "Might" be using it at school next year. So a few questions:

-Can i use a wireless router as just an "Access Point" for the summer and not use its other abilities?
-What are some of the ones with the best range ($100-125 price range)
-I heard that a 802.11g one gets better range when you use 802.11b with it? any truth to that?

Thanks Guy's

thanks.

Looking at that chrt it looks like D-Link seems to be agood choice, maybe i'll just go with a 802.11b one............

Any more recomendations..

Now I'm looking at the Linksys BEFW11S4. I already have a Linksys 4 port router, and i'm very pleased with it.

Anyone have any experience with the wireless one?

I picked up the BEFW11S4 a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get it up and running and it hasn't given me any problems to date. I thought my signal strength would be higher on the PC with the wireless adaptor since it's only in the next room, but whose to say it's due to the router. The wireless PC always says Excellent signal strength, but it seems to flucuate between 75-90%. I'm new to wireless networking though, so maybe those stats are actually the norm anyway. Beats the heck out of running CAT-5 cables all over the place 😀:brokenheart:😀

Same thing to my roomate. We share wireless connection to 3 people. However, he's not quite happy about it since his friend has a Dell laptop using winXP and the connection is usually interrupted every 3-4 mins. But this does not happen to us. In general, I think its fine
