Wireless router upgrade

I have an old Netgear WNR100v2 right now. I have it to connect my Dish receiver and a Fire Stick TV, I also have a range extender in the room with my TV and receiver. The Dish receiver has a solid signal strength. I was just wondering if getting a better router, jumping to AC would help with buffering when watching UFC PPV's, that's my main concern. Maybe its just the nature of the game, watching movies usually has little to no issues with buffering. So waste of money?
