Wireless router to wireless router?

Hi all,

Is it possible to connect a wireless router to another wireless router wirelessly?

What I want to do is have one wireless router connected to a wired cable modem. Then I want that wireless router to connect to another wireless router (while providing the internet connection to the 2nd router).

Is this possible? Or must the routers be connected with a wire?

Thanks for any info!

If the Routers ae WDS they can connect one to the other.

WDS? Wireless Network - Configuration Modes.

Of the Brand Names, out of the box, Buffalo Tech. some SMC and Belkin 802.11g line of Wireless Routers are WDS. Flashable Linksys WRT54g (v 1-4) can be made with 3rd party firmware WDS as well.

Thank you for that info! I've read some articles about it that I just searched for. That's just what I'm looking for. I read one article though that says WDS doesn't support WPA. So that means WEP must be used? Does that mean WDS is no good for a secure wireless network?

Many in WDS mode do not support WPA.

Flushable Linksys WRT54G routers with HyperWRT firmware variants that support WDS with WPA encryption.

If you are in a risky environment or have very sensitive Material and thus WEP is not strong enough Encryption, than use another setting to extend Wireless.

Extending the Distance of Entry Level Wireless Network.
