Wireless router stops transmitting. Advice needed.

My brother in law gave me his old wireless router because he said that it stopped working for him. Someone told him that he needed firmware for it or something to that degree. Well i hooked up the router to two computers and had it transmitting wirelessly, just for a local network, no broadband or anything. Well it worked for about two days and suddenly there is no more signal being transmitted.

Does anyone know what could cause this? Is it actually something to do with firmware? And If i had to download some firmware, which computer would i use to load it or apply it? Any other suggestions, besides purchasing a new one?

I guess it could be firmware, but it sounds more like faulty electronics to me. I've never heard of upgrading the firmware on consumer grade routers before, doesn't mean it can't be done, I've just never heard of it. They're so cheap anymore, I'd just go to your favorite retailer/e-tailer and pick up a new router or access point.

Goto manufacturer's website and see if there is a firmware update.
Won't hurt if it isn't working at the moment......
