Ok, First off, I think I understand the whole difference between Mbps and MBps and the same with kilobit and kilobyte. But just to make sure, I currently have SBC/ATT DSL on the 3.0 Mbps package. Therefore, the max download speed would be 3072 kbps or 384 KBps. Right? But with overhead and such, I get about +-2400 kbps or 300 KBps which seems right.
Ok, Onto the problem, I currently have a Netgear WGR614 Wireless 54G router with 4 computers hooked up to it. 3 by cable and 1 by a Netgear Wireless G USB adapter. The computer wirelessly connected is the HTPC. I like to stream video to the HTPC everynow and then from my computer which is connected by cable to the router. The wireless connection is connected at 54 Mbps which in turn should be about 6900 KBps or a little under 7 MBps without any overhead. But with overhead, you should get at least like half of that which should be about 3.5 MBps. My problem is that, the max rate in which the HTPC will download anything is about 1 MBps. Anyone know as to why that is happening? I've checked the router and made sure their is no speed limiting setting or anything of that sort. My computer is connected to the router at 100 Mbps.
