wireless router problems

i tried two wireless router so far. linksys BEFW11S4 and d-link di-524. the linksys was really bad. can't even get it to work at all sometimes. i been using the di-524 for the past 10 hours or so. i have to turn off the router and back on once in a while for it to work. the firmware has been updated to the newest one. does this have anything to do with my dsl connection, or is it the router problem? i didn't want to the get linksys 54g because its too expensive, but i'm starting to think i should just get it. i just want to check with people who know stuff about networking before buying a router for over $50. is there something i'm doing wrong thats causing this problem? please help out.

Are you running P2P file sharing programs such as Bittorrent, Kazaa, eMule, etc.? These programs cause problems with most home routers since they tend to have hundreds of open, active connections at all times (for the queue of incoming and outgoing file requests) and basic home routers are not designed to handle that many connections at the same time.

Having said that, I have never had any problems running P2P applications with my Linksys WRT54G router, although I don't leave them on all the time and only turn them on when I'm looking for a specific file so I don't generally get a huge queue of file requests lined up...
 
If you buy the new router at wal-mart and are unsatified then you can just take it right back no problem..... just over 50 bucks isn't that bad at all for a 802.11g router.
 
no P2P programs. i didn't even download anything with the new router. just basic internet usage

$50 bucks is bad if i never paid over $20 for a router before 🙁

woke up this morning and i can't connect to the router. it says limited or no connection. had to turn off and turn back on, then it works.

can anyone confirm that this got nothing to do with my dsl connection?
 
The only way to confirm the DSL connection is by using the connection for few days directly to the Modem.

There are thousands of people using the same Routers posted above with No problem.

It might be that a 3rd Router would be your salvation.
