so my bro just got an old wireless router from a friend. the thing is it doesnt have great features. he likes his wired router which has more features. how would it be possible to both in conjuction with one dsl line? he suggested plugging the wireless router into the wired router but i doubt that will work.

any ideas? thanks

btw...ive heard terms like bridge, reapter, and switch thrown out. i have an idea what these means but i'm not quite sure.

you should post in the network forum to get a better answer. Anyways, just use a crossover cable and connect the wireless router into one of the ports on the wired router, and you should be able to use the wireless portion of the router.

Turn off DHCP on the router you don't want to use, put it in a different subnet than the one you're using on your network, and plug a crossover cable from the switch on the router you want to use to the WAN port of the one you don't want to use.

That oughta do it.

Thats how i have my house setup. Basically have a router downstairs and a wireless router upstairs. Have em connected by just connecting the two routers together with cat5. Only thing is i turned off dhcp off on the wireless router and i have the cable going into a normal port instead of the uplink port.

thanks for the replies.... i think one of the problems was that he couldnt connect to the wireless router's web interface.

and for some reason he cant connect to it even when he plugs straight in from the computer to router
