OK I already have a wired gigabit router using cat-6 throughout my house and I want to keep it for my Media PC aka HTPC (I like the speed). Just to clarify, I don't think getting rid of this is an option - its a D-Link DGL-4100 if it matters.
Now, I also need wireless though since I'm moving a comp to a part of my house with no feesible way to get a cat-6 cable to the wired router in my computer room. I've thought about selling it and buying the one that has both wired and wireless but I don't know about that yet well see what you guys say.
Would I just buy a WAP? Or do I buy a wireless router and plug it directly into my wired router? I think this is better so I don't have to worry about selling my wired router and losing a lot of money to buy the combined D-link router.
Now if I do just buy a WAP, how do they work? ANd if I buy the wireless router, how would I access it? For the current one I go to 192.168.0.1 so can I put the wireless on 192.168.0.2 (since DLink are all the .0.X) or would I want to get Linksys since they are on 192.168.1.1 so they would have seperate IPs. Are the routers smart enough to be chained and recognize each other or something? I really have no experience using more then one router.
It should also be noted that I do have a 4-port HUB in the basement which is plugged directly into the router and then I switch off for my PS2 and PC thats in the basement. I've never had to tap into the HUB (I assume you can through the browser) so I don't know if this matters but want to mention it.
Please advise
