I want to network my 3 home PC's wirelessly. I have had a wired network previously. I have been looking at wireless routers but they all seem to need a modem to hook into first..

"Once plugged into your modem, the router offers wireless 802.11b/g connectivity"

I DO NOT want to share my dialup internet connection, just files

Is there a wireless router that will do what I need? Am I out of luck or am I just being dense? Any help is appreciated. If clarification
is needed just ask

Thank You too much

all (most) routers will function without an Internet connection...the two functions are completely separate.

A Router is a combo unit that includes Routing Circuit to share Internet, and a switch to connect local computers as a Network (a Wireless Router also has an Access point that is basically a Wireless Switch/hub).

A switch is like the main hall in an apartment building. Each apartment has a door to the hall and traffic between apartments is done through the hallway.

Similarly a switch has ports (doors for computers) and all traffic between the computers is conducted through the switch.

In general it looks like this, http://www.ezlan.net/network/router.jpg

If you do Not need Internet, it still would work, Wire, and Wireless, Locally.

Any router will do.

Just setup the router and secure the wireless network.

All clients that are able to access the wireless network will see all other clients on the network.

no clients will be able to access the Internet since there is no Internet connected to the WAN port and if your computer is not setup for Internet sharing connection.
